food_town_waste_less_save_moreColne Town Council Chairman, Sarah Cockburn-Price, recently entered Colne into the Waste Less, Save More Competition run by Sainsbury’s. Had we won, Colne would have had £1 million investment on waste and recycling in the town.

She heard today that Colne hasn’t made the final five, but it has been invited to be a 2016 Waste Less, Save More Discovery Community.
The Waste Less, Save More programme is about testing as many ideas as possible to help people reduce their food waste …and to share those ideas as quickly and effectively as possible.

Being a Waste Less, Save More (WLSM) Discovery Community will offer Colne a number of benefits including:

  • The opportunity to test some of the new ideas being explored next year
  • Receiving invites to WLSM Discovery Community events to share ideas and best practice
  • Opportunities to work with local Sainsbury’s stores to identify more ways Colne can benefit from initiatives such as local food donation partnerships
  • Joining a network of people committed to working collaboratively to cut food waste
  • Being featured on the WLSM national hub online which will launch in January

So, Colne didn’t win first prize, but the consolation prize is clearly worth having too. Please get in touch if you have any ideas you can share round this theme, or if you would like to get involved with WLSM in Colne next year.”
