COLNE JUNIOR COUNCIL

Colne Junior Council was formed in 2023 from a quartet of Colne and District’s primary schools:

  • Christ Church
  • Park Primary
  • Trawden Forest
  • West Street

Elections for its representatives were held in each school, using Pendle Borough Council’s ballot boxes.

It meets monthly during term times in the Council Chamber of Colne Town Hall.

At the first meeting, areas of focus were decided upon for the year and these were:

  • Improved Road Safety near schools
  • Making Colne District a greener place, now and in the future

Colne’s Neighbourhood Police team, Colne Town Council’s officers, our MP, Andrew Stephenson, one of our County Councillors, Ash Sutcliffe, and Borough and Town Councillor, Sarah Cockburn-Price, have all attended our meetings.

A series of actions have been carried out, including an anti-littering poster competition for the parks and electronic totems in the town, an audit of bins in the town centre, and audit back plates for the Speed Indicator Devices near schools, so new sites for them can be determined.  The Junior Council also asked to take part in Colne Town Council’s new Treasure Our Town initiative.
