ALLOTMENTS IN COLNE

Allotments have seen a tremendous surge in popularity in recent years. They not only keep their tenants fit and active, but they cut family shopping bills too.

The Allotment Committee of Colne Town Council has managed the allotments in Colne belonging to Pendle Borough Council since 2009. In 2012, the Council also acquired a 20 year lease on the Carry Lane allotments.

We have approximately 143 allotments on 21 allotment sites across Colne: at Alkincoates, Bunkers Hill, Knotts Lane, South Valley, Basil Street, Broken Banks, Granville Street, New Oxford Street / Townley Street, High Garth,  Cookhouse, Temple Street, Montague Street, Carr Road,  Castle Road, Intake, White Grove, Sutherland Street, River Street, Foot of Alkincoates park, West of Alkincoates park and Carry Lane.

A Colne Town Council allotment cost just 36p per square metre, or an average of £77.40 per plot per year. Only two sites have water on site and this attracts an additional charge. All our efforts are focused on bringing all the sites up to a good standard for tenants to cultivate. There are regular public meetings to inform our tenants of progress, as well as the current financial position of the Allotments Committee.
