The Annual Colne Town Council Allotment Awards were held at Colne Town Hall on Tuesday 4th October with a new allotment holder taking two of the top prizes including the Best Allotment Trophy which was generously sponsored by LBS Garden Centre.

Cllr. Margaret Foxley, Chairman of the Allotments Committee, said: “It was a thoroughly enjoyable occasion and everyone went away feeling very positive about the great work of so many Allotment holders, especially our newcomers. We thank Dianne Mason, Gladys Pollard and John Gott for giving up their time to judge the competion and selecting such worthy winners. With over 120 allotments and 21 allotment sites, the judges were impressed at the efforts made by so many plot holders to improve the quality of their plots. As a Council wishing to support Allotments, we are keen to work with plot holders over the next 12 months to improve standards even further. This has been a great competion with so many top quality entries. We are look forward to an event greater number of entries next year to win these coveted awards”.

In the Best Newcomer Category, Mr and Mrs Alexander won first place, with Daniel Darwood coming in second for his plot on the Alkincoats Allotment site. Naomi Crewe came third for her Basil Street Allotment.

In the Most Productive Category, the winner was Barrie Rainbow for the second year running for his Carry Lane plot.

In the hotly contested Best Allotment category, the winner was Mr and Mrs Alexander, who have had their allotment on Carry Lane for less than a year and a real achievement to be proud of.
