Queen and CorgisNEXT Sunday (12th June) afternoon, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., is Colne’s Picnic in the Park Event at Alkincoats Park to celebrate the 90th Birthday of HM The Queen.

Chairman of the Events Committee, Cllr. Ash Sutcliffe, enthused:

Earby Brass Band“Vets4Pets are very kindly staging a dog show at our Picnic in Alkincoats Park event in honour of HM The Queen’s Official 90th Birthday. We all know how important her canine friends are to Her Majesty. We will we be entertained by Earby Brass Band from the bandstand and for children we have hired top children’s entertainers, Phil and Pete, to organise novelty races alongside our traditional Punch and Judy man.”

Dog owners are being asked to bring along their pooches (on a lead) for these fun dog show classes being run by Vets4Pets:

  • Terrific Pet Tricks – It doesn’t even have to be outrageous. Show off your dog’s talent!
  • Best Mirror Image – The handler who looks most like their canine companion
  • Most Adorable
  • Best Junior Handler
  • Plus, fun agility course for all.

You can enter both the novelty dog show and the Children’s Races on the day (for free). Prizewinners of the dog show will win a rosette and certificate and winners of the children’s races will be awarded a special HM The Queen’s 90th Birthday medal.

Hot on the heels of the Queen’s Picnic is a free town-wide Colne Commemorates…1916 event on 2nd July, which boasts a parade, trench and medical recreations, drama, crafts, music and talks throughout the day. It culminates with a showing of the Battle of the Somme film in the Muni in the evening.

Just a fortnight later, is Summer World Music and Food Festival in Colne Town Centre throughout the day on 16th with the Market Street closed all day to allow more space for our festival goers to enjoy themselves. Finally, on the evening of Tuesday, 26th Colne Town Council is staging The Colne Grand Prix Cycle races sponsored by cottages.com and Fort Vale. For first time ever, Colne’s main race has the honour of closing the race series.

sack-raceThe Town Council has produced a calendar of all the main events on in Colne throughout the year. It is being distributed at all the events. Alternatively, the calendars can be picked up from the Town Hall during office hours. The events are also listed on the Colne Town Council Facebook page and on the Council’s website.
