COLNE Town Council Events Committee is contacting local schools to ask them to submit entries to its Egg Painting Competition. The prizes to be announced and presented on 4th April.

Events Committee Chair, Cllr. Dorothy Lord said: “We hope schools will put in their entries before the end of this term. We will supply participating schools with polystyrene eggs and we are encouraging children to let their imaginations go wild!”

The children’s painted eggs will be staged on Easter Trees in The Library where they will be judged by Ashley Sutcliffe from Live Like the Boy. Prizes are book tokens from Colne’s Bookshelf and will be awarded across several age groups, with a prize for the best overall entry from a school.

The traditional Easter Saturday celebration includes an Easter Egg Hunt throughout the town, children’s crafts in The Market, donkey and children’s rides in The Precinct, folk music and dance performances throughout the day, as well as a host of surprises. Colne’s churches are also contributing, with hymn singing outside The Market at 11 a.m. with hot cross buns. The Glass House will host “a journey through Holy Week” taking in Jesus’ crucifixion on Good Friday before flowers and an Easter Garden denote the Resurrection.
