COLNE Town Council is delighted to announce that Earby-based cottages.com will be the main sponsor for the Colne Grand Prix on Tuesday 26th July.
The race is part of the British Cycling Elite National Circuit Series and takes place on a closed-road 800m circuit around Colne’s one-way system, making for a fast, exciting spectacle. As a round of the National Elite Series, the top riders in the country will be taking part.
Cllr Sarah Cockburn-Price, chairman of the Town Council, said: “This is the first year the Town Council is running the Grand Prix, which has become a fixture in the elite cycling calendar. We are excited to be hosting the event in this Olympic year and we are thrilled that cottages.com has chosen to support us. With Pendle Borough Council stepping back from this successful series of races, we knew we could only manage to take on this event with generous sponsorship.”
Managing Director at cottages.com and cycling enthusiast, Nick Rudge, added: “As a business we have strong cycling links, supporting (and sometimes participating in!) many of the region’s races and events, not to mention helping thousands of holidaymakers enjoy cycling on holiday every year.
“This year’s main race is set to be even more exciting, because as the last in the Series, it will attract premier level cyclists, which is a great for both the local community and visitors to the region. We’re looking forward to working with Colne Town Council on the Grand Prix that in previous years has attracted cycling stars of the calibre of Sir Bradley Wiggins and Colne’s own Steven Burke.”
The holiday company, which is the UK’s biggest provider of independently vetted holiday homes, employs 450 people in its Spring Mill office on Stoney Bank Road.
