COLNE Town Council has appointed two sisters as its mascots for the 1914 Photographer’s Studio for its Colne Commemorates the Great War on 2nd August.  They are North Street girls, Lilly (6) and Summer (4) Machin.  Both attend Lord Street Primary.

Reproduction uniforms have been ordered for the girls in keeping with the tradition of soldiers leaving for the Front having their pictures taken not just with their family, but also with a town mascot.  The mascots in 1914 were small children, usually girls, who were dressed in replica uniforms.  The Machin sisters will take it in turns to pose at the recreation of the 1914 Photographer’s Studio which will be located in the Glass Box in front of the Market for one day only.  Colners and visitors are being invited to pose for commemorative pictures with their family members and a mascot.  Prints from the session will be available on the day for a nominal charge.
