Rebecca's Moo Moo MeltsDESPITE an afternoon of downpours, Colne Town Council’s first Nursery stall event was judged a success by stallholders and shoppers alike.

Two of Saturday’s stallholders, Rebecca Taylor-Shaw and her Moo Moo Melts business, and veteran Colne baker, Barbara Taylor of Stanbury Cottage, have already re booked their stalls for the next event on 15th August. They will be joined by a selection of first time stallholders, including Jackie Stansfield, who will be selling her cakes and home-made produce, Claire Shilton, who has used her maternity leave to refurbish interesting old frames, turning them into decorative domestic noticeboards and Derek Mann, chairman of the Waterside Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG), who will be running a tombola for the Group.

A heart-warming story told by Barbara Taylor was that a 94 year old lady arrived by taxi having read about Barbara’s cake stall in the Colne Times. The lady had last sampled Barbara’s coconut slices back in the mid-80s when Barbara had a stall in Colne market and was driven to sample them once more. “I am delighted have to such loyal customers and thankfully I was able to satisfy her craving! I arrived with four large tables of baking and sold almost everything, but I was most thrilled by the positive feedback I received”, said Barbara.

Lisa's Jewellery 3Lisa Wright’s handmade, bespoke jewellery also attracted many compliments and customers, as did Tom Davies’ Unique’s multi-purpose cleaner.

On social media there were dozens of positive comments, with many on Facebook’s Colne Talk. Elizabeth Lane commented: “Brill idea and great to see stalls on the street! Real market town feel!”, while Linda Hunt wrote: “Not been up Colne on a Saturday for ages – it was nice, saw loads of people I haven’t seen in ages.”

Tom and Unique CleanerCllr. Ash Sutcliffe, Chairman of Colne Town Council’s Events Committee, said: “I am so pleased this event went well, with established traders wishing the newbies good luck and many remarking that increased footfall is good for Cool Colne’s vibe. Our next one is in just two weeks’ time and I hope we can make them a regular fixture.”

People interested in booking a stall for future Nursery Stall Events (15th August, 7th September, 31st October) should contact Colne’s Town Clerk, Susan Graham: 01282 861888 or [email protected]. Only a few stalls are left for the next two Nursery Markets. Colne Town Council just need to know what the stall is selling, have all the stallholder’s contact details and also receive the £15 cost in full to secure the booking.
