“The 320 1914 posters which are now in most shops and pubs in central Colne are giving the town a really authentic vibe”, said Dorothy Lord, Chair of the Colne Town Council Events Committee. “In fact, we have heard from both the Police and our MP that some people have been alarmed by them and have reported a possibly civil emergency in Colne! Thankfully, they were able to be reassured that the posters are merely part of our Colne Commemorates Event on 2nd August”.
The Town Council is poised to mount eight banners for the event at strategic spots around Colne town centre this week.
In addition, a flyer has been produced giving a map and timetable for 2nd August. One can be consulted at the Library’s World War One Display and they are shortly to be distributed to shops. Further copies of the flyer will be handed out on the day by the event’s marshals.
The Town Council has its own web site where further details of the day’s events can be seen: www.new.colnetowncouncil.org.uk. In addition, the Events Committee has been active on Facebook and Twitter and a Facebook Event page has been created.
